November is Diabetes Awareness Month

Managing diabetes takes a lot of consistency! Insulin injections need be done every 12 hours at the same time each day, feeding needs to be the same time of day every day, plus frequent blood glucose blood test to be sure the insulin is regulated. Diabetes can be managed and diabetic pets can live a happy, healthy life with proper care.
Service Dogs and Wounded Veterans: A Beneficial Relationship

Unfortunately, many veterans return home from active duty with physical challenges and disabilities. For these wounded veterans, the road to recovery often is difficult and long. With the help of their friends and family, they make progress and return to civilian life as normally as possible.
What Did Pepper Swallow?
Pepper was playing outside on his deck when his mom noticed him batting something around. She ran outside to see what he was playing with and he grabbed a large marble and ran from her. Mom was in hot pursuit when Pepper decided he didn't want to give it up and swallowed it!!!
Dance of the Honeybees!!!!
Poor Norman, the basset, was out for a walk on a long lead when he crossed a swarm of bumblebees in a ditch he was investigating. Norman was covered in bumblebees in seconds. His parents quickly got a hose and squirted the bees off of him. Norman became very weak and was having difficulty breathing. His parents gave him some benadryl and rushed him right in to our hospital.
Simone’s Story
Simone’s life came to an end entirely to soon. Her family wanted us to share her story in hopes that her tragedy would prevent this from happening to another family.
Simone had been groomed and seemed to be uncomfortable afterwards.
Tipsy Steals Our Hearts
We had the priviledge to meet Tipsy yesterday. Tipsy was born with a deformed leg. She was surrendered to Open Door Animal Sanctuary and is a little firecracker. Tipsy is 3 months old now and she might tip over sometimes but her 3 legs get her around wherever she wants to go.
